This series has had some weird writer moments. The writer used both Viking time periods and Pirates and a future human society with split personality weirdness. This last book really tied up all the split time lines and people conflicts. I would have given it 5 stars except for 2 things. Many of the 59 or so chapters could have been a couple of paragraphs instead of slowing down the pace with the character in those chapter(s). The other is a major writers blunder. 2 of the characters are flung far ahead of their time line and the area of the USA and Canada is now a protected park. A virtual park ranger appears and sums up the most important rules, one is no killing of other humans. Guess what happens? Yup and the virtual park ranger never did anythingProduct details

Vortex Lords Vortex Series Book 3 edition by S D Taylor Literature Fiction eBooks Reviews
Vortex Lords was a fantastic 3rd book in the trilogy but I have a hard time believing there's not more to come. The plot lines and the overall concept of the story just leave so much to be plumbed. These stories would make a great screenplay. I hope we've not heard the last of Doug, Erin, and the other cast of characters, in this world at least.
It surprises me that this series has such a low number of reviews since the publication date is two years ago. I thought it was a good read all the way through from book one. In fact, I thought this was a series that got better with each book instead of the one of the disappointing ones that start you off with a good first installment then fail on the sequel.
My only issue is that this third book failed to make me sleepy during my return 7 hour flight from Hawai'i, thereby contributing greatly to my jet lag.
Book was great, can't wait for the rest of the story and characters. Kept my attention and interest the whole book
I enjoyed the story line, the characters were so well done that I wanted the story to keep going. Jumping back and forth in time was a little confusing at times but over all I really enjoyed the book.
I am enjoying reading the series and all the twists and turns that are going in to it... I look forward to the next book
I was rather impressed with this trilogy. Lots of action and good character development, if not for the sci-fi time travel / parallel universe aspect of the whole thing, it would read like a fast-paced action thriller. Time travel sci-fi has had many different flavors based on different theories of what scientific minds say may or may not be possible in the math and physics we know today, but it's always fun to wonder "what if," and I rather enjoy Mr. Taylor's particular take on it. It has deep enough science to make you think it's possible but doesn't go so far as to open obvious holes that would kill the suspension of belief for most people. If you're a physicist who specializes in time travel theories you may have a different opinion, but I thought it set the premise of the book nicely.
The core characters of the books are well developed, despite half the cast being actual copies of other characters. I do wish that there was a bit more meat to the supporting characters though. I can think of many characters I liked, but are kept firmly in the background since so little of their histories, thoughts, and motivations are revealed.
The trilogy itself reads more like one really long novel which is fine if you read it back-to-back like I did. Not sure how I would have liked it if I was waiting months between volumes, I could easily see myself getting lost in the plot if it wasn't all fresh in my mind. Proofreading was fairly good, no obvious typos, but missing words did cause a few stumbles. The largest problem was some formatting issues around chapter 43, and again a few chapters later. There were what appeared to be 30 or 40 blank pages that I had to keep clicking past to get to the rest of the text.
I really would like to see a continuation of the series since Mr. Taylor left it wide open for one. There is sufficient closure to not make me feel like I was cheated out of an ending if the author no longer wishes to continue on it though. I really hope he will, and soon.
